Description

Garden Pumice Rock by Patches of Green — 8 Dry Qt, 100% Sourced in USA

Good soil is built, not bought off a shelf. Serious gardeners know that drainage, aeration, and root room determine whether plants thrive or merely survive.

Patches of Green Garden Pumice Rock is screened volcanic pumice sourced from Oregon's Cascade Range, where volcanic geology has been producing mineral-rich rock for millions of years. Porous, permanent, and purely functional — it stays in the mix and keeps working long after perlite has floated away and vermiculite has broken down.

For general garden and potting use, blend 25–33% pumice into your existing soil or mix. For cactus, succulents, and bonsai, use 40–50%. Works in raised beds, containers, hanging baskets, and garden beds — indoors and out.

A note on what to expect: pumice screened at 3/8" minus includes fine particles and some dust. This is standard in horticultural pumice and is not a defect. Rinse before use if you prefer a cleaner mix. This is functional soil amendment — rough, natural, effective. It is not decorative rock.

Two sizes: 8 Dry Qt (8.8L) and 12 Dry Qt (13.2L). Same quality, same Oregon source.

  • Sourced from Oregon's Cascade Range — one of North America's most active volcanic regions — screened to 3/8" minus for horticultural use. Real volcanic pumice, not imported, not processed with fillers or additives. Pure volcanic rock from American soil.
  • Perlite floats to the surface. Vermiculite compresses and breaks down. Pumice does neither. It stays permanently in the soil, maintaining air pockets and drainage pathways season after season. Add it once — it keeps working.
  • Mix 25–33% pumice into any potting soil, garden bed, or raised bed blend for general planting. Improves aeration, prevents compaction, and creates root room without altering soil chemistry. Works in containers, raised beds, garden beds, and hanging baskets — indoors and out.
  • For cactus, succulents, and bonsai, use 40–50% pumice. At higher ratios pumice keeps soil fast-draining and open — exactly the conditions drought-tolerant plants need. Also widely used as a top dressing on succulent arrangements for a clean, natural finish.
  • Pumice's porous structure creates air channels in the soil that roots follow. Better aeration means stronger root development, reduced compaction, and improved water movement. Particularly valuable in heavy clay soils or dense potting mixes.
  • Screened at 3/8" minus — pieces range from 3/8" down to fine particles. Some dust and fines are natural and inherent to screened volcanic rock, not a defect. This is functional horticultural material. If you are looking for uniform decorative gravel, this is not that product.
  • Available in 8 Dry Qt (8.8L) and 12 Dry Qt (13.2L). Same screened volcanic pumice, same Oregon source, two sizes.
